As of March 1st 2013, Mobics Ltd is a partner in the SmartSantander consortium. Mobics’ proposal to perform an experiment on digital transport services in a "smart city", was selected among 31 competing proposals, in the 2nd Open Call for Experiments.
The proposed experiment, includes the deployment of advanced services leveraging the existing infrastructure of sensors in the city of Santander, Spain. More specifically, the geo-portal ploigos.gr will be customized and extended so that it can reflect the current transport network conditions (e.g., available parking slots, road traffic, bus delays) and facilitate the transportation of Santander citizens and visitors.
The services that Mobics will implement include a mobile application that gives users the ability to function as "human sensors", and earn points in a transport game based on how much information they share with others (e.g. notify about delays due to an accident, defective traffic lights, etc.).
The SmartSantander project is co-funded by the European Commission (Seventh Framework Programme – FP7) and has already attracted international attention, since thousands of sensors have already been installed in the city, and the project has deployed several quite innovative services.
